Lymphatic Drainage Massage – Why and What to Expect

Lymphatic drainage massage utilizes gentle, long but light repetitive strokes, which encourages the cleansing of toxins from the body through lymphatic flow. The functions of lymph fluid are diverse and vital to the wellbeing of the body.  The fluid is a slightly yellow clear substance, which is filtered and cleansed by the lymph nodes, which are found surrounding body organs and tissues.  Additionally the fluid carries antibodies and white blood cells to these tissues and organs, allowing the body to fight infection thus aiding the immune system.

At the initial consultation your therapist will need ascertain some information regarding your general health, lifestyle, medical history and any areas of concern that have driven you to seek the therapists help.  The therapist can establish from this information how regularly you may need to attend and how many sessions you may require to achieve a positive outcome.  Prior to your appointment it is advisable to drink plenty of water, to support the body in flushing out the toxins from your body.  With this in mind abstaining from a large meal and drinking any alcohol is also recommended.

To enhance lymphatic flow, the massage treatment is performed in a heated room on a massage table, where the client will lay under sheets or towels.
