I have written many, many posts of how to translate your offline consumer experiences to your online channels. Many people have spent hours and hours of research to learn how to make their online channels reinforce their offline business strategy. But one question still hasn’t gotten much attention. Are there lessons that can be learnt online and applied offline instead? There has to be something traditional in the new era of technology and mobile advertising and faster internet connections and all of that crap, that can be used to improve the traditional marketing strategy of the company.
Well after a few hours of thinking and research it turns out there is!

Clients don’t see the entire company
To them, only what they can see is the company. Online that is probably the website. Offline, it is the people that they come in contact with. Make sure your clerks are not on their mobile phones all day, texting while they service your customers. Believe it or not they can see that.: ) Make sure you don’t have anybody yelling at your customers. And no meter what you do, don’t let them leave your company unhappy. That will not run. Not in this competition. Not in this day and are to be clearer.
Be on the same level of conversation
If your customers speak French you learn french. If your customers speak German, you learn German. If your customers speak Chinese, you… Well you will probably have to close the business because Chinese is a difficult language to learn. The point is you have to be there for your customers, online or offline.
Does this ring any bells? “We understand your situation and appreciate you reaching out to us, however our department may not handle issues regarding that specific thing, but if you let us know the nature of your problem, we may be able to direct you to the proper person or initiate a response within a reasonable time. ”
How frustrated are you when you get an automated response like this online? You wish you have the CEO of the company in front of you that moment? I know you do. So do i. So keep that in mind when you engage your customers in real time. Be interested in their problems. Don’t just use an automated machine that does more for you then it does for them. Believe me, viral marketing is just as powerful offline as it is online.
Learn the power of presentation
People use SEO techniques online. They use PPC. Why? They want to present themselves in the best possible light in the customers eyes. These are all issues of presentation. You will probably need to think of these next time you make your sales pitch. On the website you have about up to 5 minutes before clients form an opinion about your company. You do not have much more time in real life. Remember, a hand shake goes a long way.
